There was no reason for the US to attack Iran. What boggles the mind is that the administration is not even bothering to justify the attack. The Bush/Cheney administration at least had the decency to lie to the public about weapons of mass destruction so they could manufacture a pretext for the Iraq war. The Trump administration doesn’t even feel the need to come up with a reason.
The Democratic opposition is, meanwhile, asleep at the wheel. At least, its criticisms haven’t penetrated the X echo chamber from which I get all my news.
Now the country is weaker. Both offensive and defensive capabilities are depleted. And with military supply chains so reliant on China, there isn’t a path to quick replenishment. Meanwhile the world is facing high energy prices that could reflect in widespread inflation, and cursing America for inflicting this avoidable mess upon everyone.
